Lean, somewhat effortful, middle of the road
This set would seem like a treasure.
Solid well balanced performances
I bought these on the strength of the comments from previous reviewers, so I don't feel bashful about \"borrowing\" some of the adjectives from them in describing these performances: \"wise\", \"humane\", \"moderate\" \"right\".
Direct, Muscular and to the Point
As at least one other previous reviewer has noted, these are relatively lean performances of the last three Beethoven symphonies, rendered by modern orchestras to be sure, but never weighed down or lacking transparency.
Kubelik, as ever, gets it right
I finally lost patience - not for want of trying - with the relentless friskiness of the bargain Mackerras set with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and set about finding replacement performances from disparate sources.
Kubelik conducts Beethoven in a Classical vein, free of excesses
Whether or not you like Rafael Kubelik's Beethoven depends on how you like to hear Beethoven performed and recorded: with a Classical, lean approach, or a more Romantic, \"beefy\" approach.
A homage to a great artist
Rafael Kubelik effected, in the seventies, an integral recording of the symphonies of Beethoven rather particular: he in fact conducted for the occasion 9 different orchestras, one for every symphony.
