Boo!
Boring.
oK, but....
I enjoy Laurence Rees writings very much But the book is a lot of details that prove Hitler had developed a lot of trust and charisma with German people that helped him develop the trust to have them not question is actions..
could this happen again?
History of WWll from a unique perspective, well documented.
School Assignment
It was required for a college class glad to get it for less than a hundred bucks!
From Fertile Ground Destruction Sprouts
Rees strengths include his clear writing, chronological presentation, good use of secondary sources, personal diaries of Nazis, and a variety of interviews, all in the service of helping readers comprehend how a socially inept, intellectually myopic, bitterly anti-Semitic man could captivate a country, and march the world off the cliff.
A Valuable Lesson from History
Everyone wonders how such an advanced and enlightened nation capable of producing some of world's greatest music, thinkers, scientists, writers, philosphers, and engineers coould fall for the madness of the Nazism.
Sad story but great read.
Great read.
Not exactly what I thought
When I saw the title of this book I kind of expected to read views from the ordinary germans that lived during the time Hitler was in power, and tell us their stories of how they came under Hitler's charisma.
Why O Why Did They Like Him?
A fascinating book detaililng how someone who did not like people, hated debate, despised government and had his own secret agenda which drew deviants and scoundrels to his ranks was loved by millions.
Hitler and the charisma of a "weird hero."
This is a very readable and interesting book that follows the arc of Hitler's political life in terms of his relationship with those who followed, assisted or were complicit in his remarkable rise to power.
