Lovely performance of a classic story: one more forgotten gem by Gluck
“Paride et Elena” is another of several operas by Gluck unknown to most us of until recording brought them back from oblivion, which have me seriously rethinking my list of the greatest composers who have tackled the great challenge of welding drama and music.
Wonderful opportunity
Beautifully performed beautiful music.
Delightful if a little static
Despite its lovely moments, growing popularity and emergence from neglect over recent years, \"Paride ed Elena\" remains the Cinderella amongst Gluck's three so-called \"Reform Operas\" and perhaps deservedly so.
Tender, subtle, sweet music
I am new to opera but after hearing this album on BBC's 'Composer of the Week' I am very interested in Gluck.
Paride ed Elena
George Bernard Shaw said of Gluck that "the man is a great master".
The sounds that launched a thousand ships
For several years, I looked at my Gluck recordings with dissatisfaction.
A Refreshingly Elegant Platform for Fine Singers
Gluck is a composer of the late 1700s whose continuing fame rests on his operas 'Orfeo ed Eurydice', 'Alceste' and 'Iphigenie en Tauride', vehicles that require little staging and are usually included in the repertoire for showcasing exceptional singers.
Luminous beauty
Gluck's fortunes have risen dramatically over the last decade, with new recordings of almost all his major operas and a few rarities too.
