Daniel Yergin's latest book brings his classic history of the oil industry up to date. He begins with the story of the development of the US shale oil and natural gas industries during the past few decades which allowed the US to move from being a net importer to being a significant exporter of oil and gas. He then talks about the changes in oil demand resulting from the competition with gas, alternate energy sources, and the corona virus. All of this had major geopolitical implications. Yergin

Ich habe das Buch gekauft um mehr über den Öl-Sektor und Erdgas zu lernen . Nun, es erklärt die Geostrategischen Zusammenhänge und historischen Kontext exzellent und man möchte immer weiterlesen. Es ist also keineswegs trocken geschrieben. Ich würde sogar soweit gehen zu behaupten es sollte in der Schule behandelt werden. Das würde die Anzahl der "Aktivisten" vermutlich deutlich reduzieren

Das Buch war gut zu lesen. Yergin gab auch den Nicht-Branchen-Experten einen guten Einblick in die Landschaft der Energiewirtschaft, insbesondere natürlich Öl und Gas. Ob USA, Russland, China, Vorderasien oder Europa - Yergin schafft es, alle Parteien mit ihren Besonderheiten, teils auch mit historischen Hintergründen, passend darzustellen. In 20 Jahren möchte ich das Buch gerne einmal in die Hand nehmen und vergleichen, wie die Situation sich geändert hat.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I think author should be more careful when throwing serious accusations at countries. For example he writes that Ukraine has stolen Russian gas from Europe, which is a complete nonsense and a false statement. There are no court decisions, which support this author's statement. You can't accuse anyone until it is proven. Otherwise our world will be a complete mess.

Insgesamt sehr interessante Kapitel über Erdöl und Erdgas, Pipeline-Battles und Geopolitik, wie immer bei Yergin angereichert mit zahlreichen spannenden Anekdoten, diesmal mit einem noch stärkeren Fokus auf bestimmte Regionen . Lehrreich das Kapitel über China, das ja gerade weltweit Rohstoffe an sich reißt. Erzählerisch dicht und mitreißend geschrieben. Trotzdem gerade heutzutage ein biss
