A good story poorly told
"For All the Tea in China" claims that Scottish botanist Robert Fortune, acting on behalf of the East India Company, almost single-handedly wrested tea cultivation and production techniques from a secretive Chinese tea industry, and that this "changed history.

This is an entertaining book which covers botany, tea, and the history of the English "theft" of tea.

It's a wonderful book just setting forth Robert Fortune's adventures getting tea plants out of China, but better, it is an excellent cameo of the workings of the East India Tea Company, the British empire and it's imperial conduct in the mid 1800s.
